Phase 2: Post 7 - Review of Recurse Center’s Diversity Policy and User’s Manual

Updated: Apr 15, 2019

Building on our “Good Codes / Not-so-good Codes” exercise, are there any sections in these Recurse Center documents that stand out as particularly good and/or not-so-good? Come to Wednesday’s class with questions.

Good Codes:

"Hire great programmers. RC has an integrated recruiting agency. We help companies of all sizes hire our alumni. If you care about building productive, diverse teams, get in touch."

- promote room for professional growth.- RCSP

"No. RC is an educational retreat for people who already know how to program, and for programmers of all experience levels. Our goal is to create the best place for you to grow as a programmer, not to turn you into a professional programmer in three months. See Not a bootcamp for more."

- Emphasis on educational opportunity.- RCSP

"We offer need-based grants for living expenses to people from historically underrepresented groups in programming. "

- Equal opportunity for everyone who is interested go join.- RCSP

"Don't panic. Regardless of how much experience you have, we admitted you because we believed you would be a positive influence on the batch, and we think being at the Recurse Center can help you dramatically improve as a programmer. This is really important, so we'll say it again: Everyone is here because we want them to be here, so if you're reading this, don't worry about how much more or less other people in your batch know. You are here because we want you to be here and believe in you."

- Encouragement and advice. - UM

"These rules are intended to be lightweight, and to make more explicit certain social norms that are normally implicit. "

- social codes of conduct-. UM
